I am really excited to report my first ever Crypto income update as part of this Net Worth and Income update series.
May was a really busy month for me as I got myself into the world of Cryptocurrency directly. I previously only used to buy Blockchain ETFs and some small Cryptocurrency companies (ETHC & DEFI) on Neo Exchange, but this month was a new adventure. I am also making some wonderful returns from my holdings which I will explain later.
Take a look at My Exotic Series of the Best ETFs in Canada to know what ETFs I buy.
I got into buying cryptocurrencies and stablecoins just before the crash so it hurts a bit but fun, educational, and entertaining. If you’d like to know how to start read my Complete Cryptocurrency Purchase, Exchange, Wallet, and ETF Guide.
I am still in the cleaning up process for my HISA, Robo, and GICs while keep transferring couple thousands a month to my trade account. Feel free to read more about my journey from the beginning and how we started from zero just years ago by reading my post here.
You can also find my first ever income report here Jan-Feb 2021 Net Worth and Income Update. In addition, previous months report can be found on March 2021 Net Worth and Income Update and April 2021 Net Worth and Income Update – Fantastic $7K Increase.
Extra Side Hustle Income Report ($570)
My eBay business didn’t make any sales in May sadly and I might end up reducing the price. I think I got excited and increased the price without doing enough research.
I made my second $20 on LEO Surveys (Leger Opinion) by spending little time doing some surveys in May. Feel free to use my LEO Surveys Referral Link to sign-up and start racking up some extra cash. I haven’t received the first $20 from LEO Surveys yet but the support said it is going to be processed.
In April, I made $75 from Wealthsimple Cash referrals. In May, I made another $145 from these referrals including $20 paid by Wealthsimple as a bonus to replying to their Tweets. I love Wealthsimple Cash and would love to see it grow in Canada. Read my Complete Wealthsimple Cash review and Guide.
Wealthsimple Cash $25 bonus is still going. Sign-up before the $25 is over and start inviting your family and friends to make some really easy money. No deposit is required. You get the $25 as long as you never had a Wealthsimple Cash which is different than Wealthsimple Trade account.
I love STACK and use it when abroad for free ATM withdrawals and no Foreign Exchange but STACK didn’t have much success in dominate Canadian P2P transfer system. Let’s see if Wealthsimple succeed.
I made an extra $365 from the Learn and Earn program by participating in webinars and skills improvement sessions.
When it comes to Cryptocurrency, I had 1 confirmed and approved referral to Celsius Network which made me $40 USD in Bitcoins. I counted this as $40 CAD in my side hustle total income.
I haven’t applied for a new Credit Card by I got my Aeroplan Buddy Pass transferred to points for an extra 30K Aeroplan miles. I also got the 20K in CIBC Points bonus for my CIBC Aventura Credit Card. These points are worth more than $500 but I won’t include them as a side hustle income.
In April, I made $340 by applying to different credit cards and using GCR (Great Canadian Rebates). I think every Canadian should be a member of this site. You can sign-up using my GCR Referral Link. Please note that GCR asks for referral email which is [email protected].
Current Non-Chequing Accounts
I am slowly moving funds from GIC and Robo accounts to Trade accounts to have more control. My goal is to only leave Girl A & B’s RESP in Questrade Robo account (Questwealth).
GIC accounts are all over the place but I have good interest rates in 2.75% – 3.75% range. However, I am not renewing any GICs anymore and moving them to trade accounts in WealthSimple upon maturity. Hopefully WealthSimple will offer trading LIRA account by the time my LIRA GIC matures in April 2023.
Most our GICs are maturing in April 2022 and till then I will keep moving the current cash from HISA and RRSP and TFSA accounts from Questwealth. One step at a time and sticking with my gradual investing in the market. Dollar-Cost Averaging (DCA) makes me sleep better at night.
I love WealthSimple Trade. It is really simple and no commission. I feel it is much better to save the trading money in my pocket rather than giving it out by using our trading platforms. However, I do my research and check technical via Questrade. The combination has been working great.
Wealthsimple Trade is Canada’s first $0 commission App.
Please sign-up using my referral code 8RR_5G to receive your free $10 to trade.

Current Net Worth & 1.48% MoM Net Worth Increase
Our Net Worth grew to $356,332.33 by June 1st, 2021. This is a $5,179.97 or 1.48% MoM increase. Most of this came from savings from work income with a small portion due to market increase and other incomes most notable the hustle incomes mentioned.
Looking at the chart, I love how we were blessed to increase it by 29% Year over Year (YoY) or $79,392.
Dividends & Savings Accounts Income
Since January 2021, I started calculating our income from dividends and savings accounts. You can also find my previous monthly Money Reports here.
I will not report detailed stock or ETF income till it becomes more meaningful which will be Q3 2021. Here are the numbers for 2021. Total 2021 income is sitting at $2,685.79.
In addition to below numbers, there is an additional $20.92 income which I earned from my Crypto investment. Details are provided below.
Month | Dividends | Savings Accounts | Total |
Jan 2021 | $571.03 | $206.14 | $777.17 |
Feb 2021 | $40.28 | $295.02 | $335.30 |
Mar 2021 | $305.00 | $510.29 | $815.29 |
Apr 2021 | $78.22 | $256.49 | $334.71 |
May 2021 | $164.77 | $259.35 | $424.12 |
My current annual dividend yield is 4.57%. This number will fluctuate as I keep progressing toward direct market investment.
The most interesting ETFs I bought recently were $HBLK (Blockchain Technologies ETF), $PSYK (Psychedelic ETF), $TRVL (Travel and Leisure ETF), and $EDGE (Innovation ETF). I also added more $ETHC (Ether Fund) and $DEFI (DEFI Technologies) which are traded on NEO exchange in Canada.
Cryptocurrency Income
I am earning Cryptocurrency and Stablecoins income from 3 channels which are Nexo Exchange, Cake DeFi, and Celsius Network. You can get $30 by transferring $50 worth of cryptocurrency to Cake DeFi.
Here is a screenshot of the promotions I received by investing $600 USD in Celsius.
My holdings are 60% Stablecoins ($DAI, $USDT, $USDC) which track US Dollar and not impacted by any Crypto craziness. The rest are Cryptocurrencies like $MATIC, $BTC (Bitcoin), $ETH (Ether), $DFI (DeFi Coin), $CEL (Celsius), $NEXO (Nexo) and $BCH (Bitcoin Cash).
I am planning to move my $USDC from Celsius to Nexo as I can earn 12% in Nexo versus Celsius which is currently 8.88%.
Below is what I earned since May 10th when I started my Crypto world journey. The reward $ amount fluctuates as it is in the coins and not in dollar amount. It can go up and down like any DRIP stock or ETF.
So my $2850 CAD investment in Cryptocurrencies and Stablecoins earned me $20.92 in less than a month. I will write a more detailed post about how I am doing all these activities and the cons and pros of diversifying in Crypto rather than using Gold or any non-paying commodity.
To summarize, I had a nice $1015 extra income from different sources which I hope I can keep increasing before reaching my FIWOOT goal.
Thank you for reading and let me know if you have any questions or feedbacks.
Great stuff. Will be interesting following along on your crypto journey as well.
keep it up
cheers
Thank you! Indeed. The crypto world is very entertaining and evolving. Pretty much there is a new way to generate income everyday. I am still evaluating my plans on how to grow it.
Hey Mr. Dreamer, impressive month across the board. The side hustle income is amazing. It’s awesome that you are pulling in money from WealthSimple. And congrats on the net worth growth. Solid haul of dividends too. I look forward to next month’s report.
Hello Graham & Thank you for stopping by.
I am really grateful for all the side hustle income. The most amazing part is the tracking where I can really see numbers and growth. In the past, I never really noticed how much they matter but the blog changed the game.
I am also looking forward to seeing your dividend and blog income grows monthly.
Wow, another great month, Mr. Dreamer! You net worth is approximately where we were when I discovered FIRE in 2014. But you’re farther on the path with your investing than I was at that point, so I have no doubt you’ll hit your next net worth milestones sooner than us!
Nice job on all the Wealthsimple referrals! Keep up the great work.
Thank you, Chrissy. Appreciate your kind words and support as always.
I am trying my best. I hate to say it but Covid slowdown and no traveling helped a lot in gathering my thoughts and having a clear picture of what I need and can do.
Hopefully I can keep the savings and investing rate as is. Yes, those WS Referrals were really neat. I got 1 referral this month so far. 15 more days to go.
Happy Savings,
Mr. Dreamer
